NA8 is a time system used by the dwellers of the European Life Biomes after their release to the surface. It marks the first time a piece of European surface land stopped being so contaminated as to mutate anything that lived on it. The decision to change time systems was setup in advance when the Life-Biomes were created as a means of symbolizing a new era—hopefully one without world-ending events.
